Ruthin Gaol: Clwyd Street, Ruthin, Denbighshire, LL15 1HP

We invite you to spend an evening ghost hunting with us at the fantastic Ruthin Gaol – the only Pentonville style prison open to the public!
A prison has been on the site of Ruthin Gaol in one form since the 17th century and prior to becoming the County Gaol it was used as a ‘holding area’ for those unfortunate to have committed crimes that warranted severe punishment…
In 1866 the Gaol became a four storey Pentonville style building – helping to fit even more
troubled men, women and children within its walls. Many executions took place within the Gaol itself and life inside the prison was hard with most inmates living off a diet of gruel and water. Some of the prison guards made life even harder for the inmates – including one who just disappeared and to this day no one knows where he went… Will you find out? Could the answer lie within the Dark Cell?
The last execution took place in 1903 and after that the number of paranormal incidents reported in the Gaol increased. There are stories of doors slamming shut and voices heard in areas of the Gaol when no one was present, the giggling sound of a young child has also been heard, shadows have been seen and the keys of the prison guards long since gone can still be heard today…
